Model Introduction
Versatility is the watchword at True North Yachts. This 38-footer can do a lot of things well and nowhere does it feel crowded of crammed with stuff—it knows its purpose and meets the owner’s at-sea needs very well. With a small but well-designed and serviceable cabin and a large, wide-open cockpit and pilothouse, this boat has a lot to offer the day boater or weekend cruiser and water enthusiast. The True North 38 is available in 3 basic “good-better-best” configurations, including the Sport, Heritage and Classic models. The Sport has all the basics and a long, ala carte options list. The Heritage gives the buyer a choice of interior teak or cherry and includes as standard equipment Ultraleather or Ultrasuede cushions, bottom paint, air conditioning, 8kW generator, stereo system, anchor pulpit and windlass, fire suppression system and canvas. The Classic offers, among other things, a higher level of teak exterior and interior joinery and finish work.
Construction
The SCRIMP process, like most resin infusion methods, draws the resin through the fiberglass reinforcements using a strong vacuum. The process starts off conventionally enough with a female mold and a layer of gelcoat sprayed on. A 3-oz. skin coat of fiberglass mat wet out in a premium, essentially osmotic blistering-proof vinylester resin is applied over the gelcoat and allowed to cure.
