Model Introduction
The Sea Ray 270 Amberjack, a good-looking multi-function family boat, is a hybrid that works very well for the family that wants to do it all––cruising, fishing, diving and watersports. The comfortable cabin encourages weekends on the water and its excellent handling, generous fuel capacity and a fishing-friendly cockpit offer the versatility and flexibility many boaters are looking for.Construction
Sea Ray uses a vinylester resin in a 2 oz. layer of chop to prevent osmotic blistering and for its superior strength and impact resistance. Chop and woven roving constitute the laminate and 3mm Coremat is used where bulkheads meet the hull skin to spread out point loads. Foam-cored fiberglass stringers, a pressure-treated wood transom, and exterior-plywood bulkheads support the hull and deck structure. The hull-to-deck joint is bonded with Bostic polyester putty and fastened with self-tapping screws every 6 in. The deck is laminated with chop strand mat wet out with a DCPD resin. A combination of Coremat and end-grain-balsa is used in the deck as coring for added stiffness. Sea Ray takes pains to prevent balsa penetrations.
Hull Design
The Sea Ray 270 Amberjack has a modified-vee, hard-chine planing hull with 21o of deadrise at the transom. Chine flats add form stability at rest and along with the hull’s running strakes, add dynamic lift at speed.
