Introduction
Now in its third generation, the race-bred 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 is the most powerful 911 ever introduced. Historically, the GT2 was based on the chassis, suspension and engine of the high-performance 911 Turbo. However, while the 911 Turbo appeals to the Grand Touring crowd, the 911 GT2 is pure supercar. To extract such performance, the GT2 foregoes all-wheel drive and many of the weighty luxury appointments found in the Turbo model. With a lower curb weight, as well as an upgraded suspension and mechanicals, the GT2 flaunts a new aerodynamic splitter and rear wing befitting its twin-turbo, 530-hp powerplant and 204-mph top speed.
Model Lineup
Perched at the top of the 911 hierarchy, and with the exclusivity of being the highest-performance Porsche offered for use on public roads, the GT2 offers a comprehensive list of standard equipment. A rear-wheel-drive configuration, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, is the only driveline and transmission choice. Large front air intakes, a rear wing, and special twin exhaust pipes differentiate the GT2 from lesser 911 models while adding engine cooling and downforce.
Fitted to every GT2 are Porsche’s PCCB brakes.
